If so, you are invited to be part of this ministry that does projects such as making Bible covers for the 3rd grade Sunday School class and walker bags for a local nursing home. Servant Evangelism Once a month, usually on Saturday morning, our dedicated Servant Evangelists perform random acts of kindness in the name of Jesus Christ for our neighbors in Strongsville. In the past this group has handed out batteries for smoke alarms and carnations in honor of Mother’s Day, returned shopping carts at a local grocery store, provided water bottles at the Strongsville Homecoming Parade and raked leaves in the fall. Each event takes about 1 ½ hours and participation is open to all ages (this is a great family event). The City Mission The City Mission is located in downtown Cleveland and provides much needed help to the homeless in the metropolitan area. On the first Monday of even numbered months (February, April, June, etc.) our church prepares and serves the evening meal to the male residents of the Mission. Help is needed in preparing the meal, driving to the Mission and serving the meal. You can also help by donating the food items needed for the meal. Two weeks prior to the date of the meal a sheet is posted on a church bulletin board that lists the items and amounts needed. Strongsville Food Bank The Food Bank serves the needs of Strongsville residents by providing them with non-perishable grocery and personal items (shampoo, soap, etc.). Your donations of these items can be left on the table across from the Youth Director’s office on the lower level of the church. Donations are taken to the Food Bank every week. The Food Bank is always in need of volunteers. For information on how you can volunteer, call the Food Bank at 440-846-0197. Westside Community House This community center in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland serves the needs of local children and senior citizens by providing childcare and summer camps, Head Start programs, meal services, and recreation and fellowship programs. At certain times of the year (especially Christmas) the church collects clothing, personal care and gift items for donation to the center. Volunteer opportunities at the center are also available. For information about volunteering, call 216-771-7297. Angel Tree Ministries Angel Tree Ministries is a national organization dedicated to increasing the presence of Christ to incarcerated parents and their children. Every year, SUMC supports this ministry by providing several gifts for children of prisoners who complete biblical training while incarcerated, and volunteers deliver these toys and gifts throughout the Cleveland area.
