Showing God’s Love Ministries (also known as “The Blue Bus”) delivers food and donations of other items (clothing, blankets, toiletries, toys, etc.) to less fortunate communities on the near west side of Cleveland. The bus is well known in the communities it services and volunteers often get to know and make friends with people along the route. The bus is stored at A&H trucking company in Cleveland. The trucking company not only stores the bus at no charge, but also performs all the necessary maintenance. This ministry is supported by dozens of volunteers. People who ride on the bus prepare and pass out plates of food, clothing, toiletries, blankets, toys, and many other donated items to people who live along the route. Some volunteers get off the bus. Others prefer to remain on board and prepare plates and drinks. People who get off the bus hand out food and donated items and work to cultivate relationships with the people they meet. Other volun teers drive the bus, cook food, pick up food donations from local restaurants, manage donations of items, coordinate volunteers, and perform necessary administrative duties.Prayer is an important aspect of this ministry and distinguishes Showing God’s Love Ministries from secular social services. Although it is understood that not all people are comfortable offering prayer to others, it is still an encouraged practice. The majority of the funding for Showing God’s Love Ministries comes from donations of pocket change generously given by the congregation each month during communion. |
